La seguridad en Guanajuato

Listening to current news produced both within and outside of Mexico, one can easily sense that what is being mapped right now is narco-violence.  Certain cities and areas are characterized as epicenters of violence, while others are more happily located at its margins.  The city of Guanajuato does not figure into this violence’s mobile trajectory around national space for several key reasons: its identity as a university city, its middle-class orientation and lack of showy wealth, and its unwieldy topography.  The following video (in Spanish) offers one local professor’s assessment of the situation.  It reinforces the local assertion that Guanajuato is still safe, and that “aquí no pasa nada.”

This movie requires Adobe Flash for playback.
